Being a serious global threat emerging in our times, desertification has been ranked at the top of international environmental communities priorities. Nowadays, one third of the total landmass of the earth is categorized as dry or desertic where one in five from the worldwide population lives.

 

… With the United Nations Convention to Combating Desertification (UNCCD), an internationally binding framework for action was established to promote proactive cooperation between industrialized countries and countries affected by desertification. The UNCCD came to raise awareness among policy makers, public and private agencies and local communities of the growing threat to natural resources in the arid zones in the African, Latin American and Asian countries.
