ACSAD-GTZ partnership
Launched in the early 90s, the partnership
has succeeded to establish competent institutional structures
and to ensure adequate national conditions for the implementation of the United Nations
Convention for Combating Desertification.
The partnership has upgraded ACSAD functions and operations
while establishing strategic
alliances and allowing wide international and regional exposure. The cooperation has improved environmental and social conditions in various
regions in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.
The partnership has
seeded efforts in order to achieve many goals:
-
Development of National Action Programs [NAPs]
-
Implementation of NAPs through Local Action Plans [LAPs]
-
Management and restoration of natural resources in degraded lands and their production function in agricultural practices
-
Assessment and monitoring of desertification processes
The tools developed
by ACSAD provided services to member countries.
They targeted the improvement of planning procedures, implementation of sustainable
land management measures and the appropriate use of available funds.
TheVision
To strengthen ACSAD to act as a service-oriented centre of excellence for technology transfer and information management aiming at the promotion of UNCCD implementation in the Arab League. |
